From paranormal encounters to avoiding a car crash with mysterious ways, the '70s were a wild time.
It's a mystery how hippies even survived the ‘60s and ’70s with all the crazy adventures they got themselves in. The nomadic free-love flower children era threw capitalism to the wind and lived off of human kindness and travel. Countless movies have been made around hippies hitchhiking into horror scenarios, or hippie kids just making the most out of life. And, of course, tons of movies and books and more have been made about the music of hippies.
Now, hippies are the grandparents of the TikTok generation, and TikToker Hannah aka @originalruca is retelling the stories of her hippie grandparents. Her mother grew up traveling the U.S. and Canada in a converted bus. Her grandparents were hippies that didn't even keep a watch or clock so they wouldn't live by the confinements of time. According to Hannah, her hippie family has all kinds of crazy stories from that era that range anywhere from encounters with the paranormal to surviving a car crash by means of which they can't explain.
One story she shares is when her grandparents and her mom got stuck in the middle of nowhere. Being hippies, they didn't panic. Instead of frantically trying to figure out what to do next, they sat and prayed. After a little while a man came out of nowhere, told them the part they needed, and pointed them towards a nearby garage. Her grandpa drove off and got the part and was able to fix their bus.
But before continuing on their journey, they decided they had to thank they guy. So they went back to the garage and asked for him. They were met with confused eyes and the owner of the garage asked them if they were sure it was that man. When they said yes, he told them that the employee they're talking about had been dead for several years.
The TikToker shares two other stories that are simply the epitome of the hippie movement—no clocks, no shampoo, and just self-sustaining farming. She also shares a video showing old and recent photos of her grandparents and mom. It's obvious she loves her family very much, and adds that, sadly, her grandmother is “not in her right mind anymore” so she hasn't really been able to get her to understand how viral her stories are getting. She says, however, that she knows her grandma would've gotten a big kick out of it all and would've even wanted to come on her TikTok to tell her stories herself.
The stories are going viral and viewers can't get enough of them. Hopefully, Hannah will make this a series and share more of these hippy tales with us.
