Today the Iraq War was officially declared over by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta. The 800 billion-dollar war began on March 30th, 2003 and cost the lives of 4,500 Americans and more than 100,000 Iraqis. At the closing ceremony, Secretary Panetta told the troops, "you will leave with great pride — lasting pride, secure in knowing that your sacrifice has helped the Iraqi people to cast tyranny aside and to offer hope for prosperity and peace to this country's future generations."
