Dude Calls Superman An 'Extremely Boring Superhero,' Inspires Debate

I've never been a huge fan of Superman. As superheroes go, he's always felt a little too perfect. Genetically superior alien crash lands in the American heartland, adopted by a well-meaning couple, grows up to save the world. It's always felt like Batman, or even the mutants of Marvel's X-Men, had more depth, grit, more struggles. And it would seem I'm not alone. It's not just the box office that backs me up. Sometimes, a random Twitter user will come out and say what I've been thinking for years. This time, @brndxix was the one to up and say what I've been feeling - that Superman is boring.

The tweet, which probably took all of two seconds to write, has resulted in a couple days of controversy. Which isn't all that surprising when you consider the world's obsession with superheroes.

Turns out that Kal-El has quite a few defenders on Twitter.

Some defenders looked to the comics to defend the caped alien, while others decried the way the hero has been written in recent movies. One brave soul actually compared Superman to Captain America, arguing that there's no way CA can be less boring than the kid from Krypton - much to the chagrin of Marvel fans.

This user, @voidpexx, actually said what I'd been thinking: that Superman is “overpowered as f*ck.”

But even that tweet received a pretty thoughtful response.

If I'm being honest, that second tweet resonated with me.

Maybe, just maybe, Superman isn't that boring, after all. Maybe he's just been neglected by those big movie studios who don't fully understand the character themselves.

While this last tweet makes us feel, well, a bit called out, perhaps it's deserved. We love when people can change our mind with thoughtful arguments, and today it looks like we are going to have to do some more reading on Superman.
