I'm going to be honest here - and I know some of you will roll your eyes at this - but I actually like AI videos on my TikTok feed. There, I said it. I'd even argue I prefer them to actual human content. Not because AI is better, but because at least the algorithmically generated nonsense isn't trying to get my attention - It's just nonsense. There's a strange kind of peace in scrolling through surreal, uncanny AI chaos instead of yet another guy starting his video with "So nobody's talking about this, but…"
That said, I get it. I'm the weirdo here. Most people want less AI in their feeds, not more. And Pinterest - of all platforms - is stepping up to make that happen.
The company just announced a new feature that lets users control how much generative AI content appears in their feed. They're calling it a way to "dial down the AI" and "add more of a human touch." You can now go into your settings and literally tune your feed - choose less AI in categories like fashion, beauty, art, and home décor, where the line between digital fantasy and reality has gotten a little too blurry.
Pinterest's CTO Matt Madrigal said this is about balance - "the right mix of human creativity and AI innovation." Translation: you can finally unslop your feed.
The new controls are rolling out now across Android and desktop (iOS users, as always, get it later). You'll even see clearer "AI-generated" labels on Pins, so you'll know when that dreamy boho living room was designed by a person… or by a neural network that's never paid rent.
Personally? I'll keep my feed a little slopped. Sometimes, a bit of fake is what makes the internet feel real.
