If you were a 90s kid with an appreciation for absolute chaos, then you probably remember Samurai Pizza Cats. This show was peak Saturday morning insanity—fast-paced, ridiculous, and overflowing with fourth-wall breaks and pop culture references. But what made it even wilder was the way it was made.
See, Samurai Pizza Cats wasn't just an anime—it was a complete accident. The show was originally a Japanese series called Kyatto Ninden Teyandee, but when Saban licensed it for an English dub, they ran into a tiny problem: they didn't actually have proper translations. Instead of trying to make sense of the original, they just made up their own script, turning the show into a full-on parody with nonstop jokes, over-the-top narration, and absurd character names (looking at you, Polly Esther). Somehow, it worked. The result was a cult classic that still holds a special place in the hearts of nostalgic 90s kids.
And now, 30 years later, the Pizza Cats are finally back—not with a reboot, but with a brand-new video game!

Titled Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast From the Past, the game is being developed by Blast Zero and published by Red Dunes Games in celebration of the series' 35th anniversary. From the looks of the announcement trailer, it's a 2D action-RPG where you can switch between Speedy Cerviche, Polly Esther, and Guido Anchovy, using their unique abilities to fight enemies and solve puzzles. Even better? Several members of the original English voice cast are returning, including Rick Jones (Cerviche), Sonja Ball (Polly), Terrence Scammell (Guido & Narrator), and Dean Hagopian (Big Cheese).
Right now, the game is still in early development, but it's coming to all major platforms, and you can already wishlist it on Steam. If it captures even half the energy of the original show, we're in for something special.
Welcome back, Pizza Cats. We've missed you.
