TikTok Is Already Ruining Kate Bush's "Running up That Hill" and Remixing It to Be About Expensive Avocados

Kate Bush has been a niche idol in the pop culture world since the ‘80s. She’s had a huge fan base and she has been doing her thing since the start. Her biggest song in the U.S. has always been “Running up That Hill (Deal with God)” since it came out in the early ‘80s. Those who were there, remember it well. The song, however, is making a resurgence since being featured on the most recent season of Stranger Things. Kate Bush is ecstatic to have all the new fans and has been quoted saying she loves the show Stranger Things. The song has since been trending on the Gen-Z app TikTok and the song has even made its way back into the top of the music charts.

However, this is 2022 and the Internet is an unforgiving place. So, now we already have a silly remix to the song. TikToker @mattstorerhere remixed the song to be about trying to sell some overpriced avocados to God. It's silly and nonsensical, but TikTokers are already eating it up and making the sound trend.

Original Remix

Some TikTokers point out that it's a great commentary on inflation. The current situation that the U.S. is in has caused anybody but the rich to suffer. Basic necessities, like baby formula, feminine products, and, of course, food have gone into “shortage” and their prices skyrockets. One of these items, always, being the avocado. These fruits have always been the first to up in price with any sort of situation and have always had the reputation for being overpriced. In the new remix, the TikToker uses the first few words from the original and then quickly changes it to be about him trying to sell two avocados to God for $10. God then complains that it's not a good deal, but then he counters with the fact that money is beneath God—but God says it's the principle of it.

“Inflation got us bargaining with God…”

It's a pretty funny remix, I mean, the original is definitely better, but it makes you chuckle. But then it reminds you that we are currently plummeting further and further into a deep bourgeoisie-controlled inflation and it's not so funny anymore…
