This is a simple mask that can be made from a t-shirt or any other fabric you have around. To make this mask you will need:

    • a t-shirt or other fabric you don't mind cutting up
    • scissors
    • a ruler

  • Step 1

First, lay the t-shirt on a flat surface. Cut off the bottom hem of the t-shirt and discard it. Now cut two strips across the bottom of the t-shirt, about 1 inch wide. These will serve as ties for your mask.

  • Step 2

After cutting the two ties, get your ruler or measuring tape. The measurements shown in the GIF show how tall the mask will be. In other words, start the measurement from the bottom of the t-shirt to the point where the woman's hands are pointing. Cut the t-shirt to make a long rectangular shape.

  • Step 3

Cut the sides of the rectangle, which should be no less than 16 inches wide. If your t-shirt is less than 16 inches wide, do not cut the sides of the rectangle. Instead, make one cut in the circular piece of fabric you have. This will allow it to open up to twice the width of the t-shirt. Measure 16 inches in width and cut the fabric. When finished, you should have a rectangle of fabric 16 inches by 8 inches long (for an adult's mask).

Take the two strips of fabric you cut for the ties and cut them to be about 20 inches long (although the size of each person's head varies so you may need to adjust them). If using a t-shirt, pull the ties to stretch the fabric and make it less elastic. After stretching them, they should be longer and thinner than before. If using other fabric that doesn't stretch, skip this step.

  • Step 5

Take one tie and place it vertically on the rectangle of fabric, about 4 inches from the edge.

Put the second tie on the other side.

Fold in one side of the fabric over the tie, then fold in the other edge. Now the ties will be tucked in to the very edges of the mask.

  • Step 8

Tie the top two ties together in a knot. This will slip over the top of your head, so make sure it fits you.

  • Step 9

Lift up the mask, keeping it in the same position it was on the table. The top tie will go over your head and sit comfortably over your ears and on the back of your head. The bottom ties will be hanging down.

Now pull the bottom ties out to the sides. This will cause the mask to gather at the sides, becoming tighter on your face. Once it is comfortable, tie the second ties behind your head. Note that you might need to tuck in and readjust the mask a little to make it fit perfectly on your face.

    That's it! You've made a mask from a t-shirt. Good job.
