Not the Bees!! Street Food in Bangkok is Swarmed With Bees, But Still Looks Delicious Enough to Catch a Flight to Thailand Instead of Catching Food Poisoning

Most people’s experience with anything Thai-related is usually either a super bomb pad thai noodle plate from a restaurant or a thai tea boba. Despite pressure from the West, Thailand has remained a bit of a wild place and a mystery to many tourists, with their beach elephants, monkey temples, and stacked cities nestled in rainforests.

One woman, a foodie on TikTok, shares her experience with one thing that all tourists can’t get enough of… Street food. “Bangkok Foodie” is a popular TikToker who consistently shows the process of cooking and the final plates of several Thai street vendors who serve traditional dishes. Whether you’re an experienced chef or simply a novice, it’s pretty clear that these Thai chefs are not following any sort of rules or regulations when cooking. It’s just freestyle.

Most notably, there are the bees.

Dessert stands all over the city are overrun with honeybees, drawn to the sugary treats just like us humans are.

Either nobody is getting stung, or nobody gives a crap about the buzzing beauties.

However, the treats do look delicious– even though they’re being ravaged by the feet of 1000 flying, stinging bugs. In most countries, this kind of infestation would cause a cart to be shut down for good. Not in Thailand.

If anything the bees are drawing in more customers, eager to see what all the buzz is about. And it’s not just dessert carts! Fruit carts are also getting overrun by the bees in the summertime. I guess nobody seems to really mind risking a sting or two for a hearty cup of melons. The way they just scoop the bee bodies out of the juice is simply professional. Steep the bees for 2 minutes, then remove.

With no FDA breathing down their necks, it seems that street food in Thailand is the Wild West of culinary institutes and I don’t know whether I’m drooling in anticipation or worried about catching a stomach virus.
