If you've been online in any capacity this week, you've probably heard of the Pink Sauce. The product was originally marketed on TikTok as a delicious and unique sauce that was incomparable to any other sauce currently on the market. However, things fell apart quickly when consumers found that the sauce was shipped unrefrigerated in a flimsy bag and contained multiple errors on the nutrition label. The most worrying discrepancy to many buyers was that the Pink Sauce was a different shade of pink in nearly all of the promotional material. These strange incidents led people to believe that Pink Sauce is no more than a dangerous scam.
Since the Pink Sauce scandal broke, creator Chef Pii has made an earnest attempt at damage control. She initially posted an apology on TikTok reassuring the public that the problems with Pink Sauce were going to be dealt with swiftly. This video has since been deleted.
Unfortunately, since then, Chef Pii has shown her slip, indicating once again that she might not know what she's doing. When commenters on her live stream asked whether Pink Sauce is FDA approved, she responded, “What do you mean ‘FDA approved?' I don't sell medical products. The Pink Sauce is not a medical product. The Pink Sauce don't contribute to your health. I never said that."
Chef Pii also claimed that she genuinely cares about people's concerns that their health might be threatened after eating the Pink Sauce, saying, “my son carries an EpiPen every day to school.”
At this point, it seems that Chef Pii is not about to give up on the Pink Sauce grift just because of a little bad press. The question remains whether people will continue to buy the Pink Sauce, either because of the scandal or in spite of it. At this point, who knows! Perhaps a few years from now, this colorful product will be lining the aisles of Whole Foods everywhere. Until then, the Pink Sauce is the lolcow that keeps on giving.
