It's never a good sign when an employer asks an employee, no — tells an employee — that they need to participate in events outside of work hours to maintain good standing at work.
Redditor u/tee_ran_mee_sue took to the popular subreddit r/MaliciousCompliance to share this particular story, in which his boss insisted that everyone at the company attend monthly go-kart races. When the OP realized he had a conflict, their boss insisted that he attend, so he did, conveniently putting his years of competitive kart racing to the test and beating everyone — including the boss.
It sounds like the boss insisted everyone attend these go-kart races just so he could beat everyone and was livid when someone actually beat him, which is a hilariously poor display of sportsmanship. the boss definitely underestimated their new hire here. It sounds like after the malicious compliance was successfully executed: The employee got themselves off the hook for future mandatory kart race attendance.
