Font - Boots on Dogs [Vent] Open Walking my dog on the pavement while it's 104°F out, I put boots on my dog. And today, someone took it upon themselves to tell me that dogs in the wild wouldn't have boots. You're right. But pavement that you can cook eggs on hasn't been around long enough for them to adapt to it. Coyotes come out at night here for a reason! Few animals hunt during the day here- and none of them are Corgis or poodles. Unfortunately for my dog, sometimes I don't have the time to w

Font - 1cecream4breakfast · 22d I'm super impressed with any dog owner that can get their dog to wear boots. Props to you! G Reply 283 Beginning-Brain3009 OP · 22d The key is not to give them a choice... And also to notice when they get kicked off, or you have to go back for them. My pup hates them, but I do think he's realized that they're better than hot pavement. He also has a lot of trust that Mom won't hurt him, so he's willing to put up with my weirdness. Thanks for the kudos :) 169 ...

Font - 1cecream4breakfast · 22d I tried them on my corgis a couple winters ago. Hard pass all around a they just kicked them right off before I could get a second one on. Didn't help that they weren't designed well. 4 34 Beginning-Brain3009 OP. 22d You have to tighten them way more than you'd think you should. I was terrified l'd hurt my dog the first few times, but after hulking out on them (I'm a small female who doesn't do any training so take this with a grain of salt) he can still kick them

Font - RANDOM-HERO · 21d Juno (Rotti x GSD) & Thane (Siberian Husky) I finally upgraded to the Ruffwear summit trex boots. Spent a heckin' amount on them, but they're soooooo good! You buy them in sets of two since front feet are usually bigger than back feet. The shoes don't get soaked through because of the vibram soles, they have good structure thanks to the design and fabric, and the velcro is so much tougher and better quality strapping than anything Petsmart sells. Absolutely worth every p

Font - redjuno · 22d I don't understand why anyone would give a shit. Before I was a dog owner I never thought twice about them. Now as a dog owner l'll be buying some for my pup because dogs in the wild don't walk on sizzling asphalt in the summer or salted concrete in the winter. And I wouldnt barefoot either, as a human. 6 Reply 1 21 3

Font - peachstella • 22d Yeah so what? Humans wear boots too. It's not natural and who cares? I think it's a great idea and if your pup tolerates the boots then it's a perfect way to make sure he's safe. G Reply 1 15 3 ...

Rectangle - amackee · 22d What an idiot...and let's be honest, dogs exist mainly Bc they gave a polite no thank you to being wild. They said, "I'll wear the boots in exchange for AC." G Reply 1 29 +

Font - aimeesays · 22d Dogs have been domesticated for over 30,000 years so what they did in the wild certainly doesn't apply now. Humans didn't wear shoes until 40,000 years ago so by this person's logic we are all crazy for wearing them. G Reply 82

Font - iSt Chantelauve · 22d Also dogs in the wild don't go on walk when heat is too strong so the i***t who bothered OP about it made an absolute moot point. Keep protecting your pup OP, you're a good owner. 4 47 +

Font - Toirneach • 21d Depends on why you want them to wear boots, I suspect. My old girl got boots when she got really unsteady in her back end. She was walking with her feet way outside her hips to steady herself. We spent a couple of days getting her used to the feel while she wasn't standing, then put them on and asked her to stand. She did that comic/tragic OMG what is this walk for like.. 3 steps. Then she stood and thought a minute, and walked a little further like a normal dog. In 5 minu

Font - foodie42 · 22d My pup implicitly trusts me. The booties were weird at first (like, hysterically, video-worthy) but she eventually accepted them. Then we never had to use them. Sooooo we just put them on for entertainment (for us) and cheese (for her) now. Its not as funny now that she knows she's getting cheese for wearing them. Plus it means that if we do need them, she knows there's fun and cheese for her. Advice: Find a high value treat and do something to take the mind off off the boo

Font - Mademoise11e · 21d I got boots for my dog and it was a bit awkward at first for him and it's hard not to laugh! But instead of laughing at him, we kept telling him how handsome he looked in his fancy new boots and kept encouraging him and it didn't take him long to adapt. He walks confidently in them now!

Font - Shinusaur · 21d I used to live in a neighborhood with a lot of elderly residents, the building management super-salted the sidewalks with salt and sand mixture every winter to prevent people from falling on ice. The mix was so strong that could a dog would just barely walk across a small patch of salted sidewalk and would limp immediately, so a countless number of my walks were spent stopping to wipe off paws or pick him up to avoid all together. So I bought him a set of winter booties to

Font - ProperQuiet · 22d I had some luck with PAWZ disposable shoes, they basically look like balloons that you just slip on but you have to be very precise with measuring them. and I never got the chance to try them out but WalkeePaws might be an option. They're basically leggings that have rubber around the paws and close on the back like a harness so it's a lot harder for the dog to remove them and if you're dealing with snow their legs are all covered so they don't get as wet. + Competitive-
