It's important to teach your kids to listen when you warn them against something, but children can't help but be curious. Sometimes they fully need to understand where the inherent danger stems from. For many avenues of life, the best way to learn is to make the mistake on your own. Is there a line, however? If you tell your daughter to avoid the roof, is it important that she finally get stuck there in order to learn her lesson?
Well, that's exactly what this dad did. Redditor u/reservedmarko took to r/AmITheAsshole to ask whether they were in the wrong for leaving his teenage daughter stuck on the roof of their home for multiple hours when she wound up getting herself stuck out there. It sounds like OP wasn't available anyway, and he said he had asked his daughter many times before not to go out on the roof because it's dangerous. The daughter's mother wasn't thrilled and multiple people said OP put his "need to be right" over his daughter's well-being. Who's in the wrong here?
Perhaps it's the kind of teaching method you only understand if you're a parent yourself.
