Every once in a while a street cat will decide that it's done with outdoor life and that it's time to pick a family to adopt. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's almost always a story worth telling. Whether it's a random stray cat that decides it's time to get pampered, whether it's injured stray cats who need help to be able to survive, or whether it's pregnant stray cats in need of help from humans with their babies - every one of these stories is wholesome and adorable, and we know you love reading them just as much as we do.
The story of Granpruno is just as wholesome and also has a dash of funny in it. It starts in Montreal, Canada where Steph and Francis spotted an older grumpy-looking cat looking for food in their backyard. He reminded them of one of their kittens named Pruno, so they named the tabby Granpruno. And when they stepped outside to check on the cat, he came running to them.

"He was looking for snuggles and was happy to get some attention. He came up to the couple as soon as they called to him," Celine Crom of Chatons Orphelins Montréal shared with Love Meow. Thinking that the cat might have a family, the couple left food and water for him outside while keeping an eye on him. For a few days, he came back for the food, but didn't come back in the following weeks.
"They looked in the backyard every day for him. Then one evening, when they were taking out trash, they were surprised to find Granpruno rummaging in the garbage, and he didn't look well." He lost a lot of weight and was clearly fragile, but he found the strength to trudge his way towards the couple the moment he saw them. It was as if he was glad to be back with them. They were certainly glad to see him, scooping him up and bringing him inside.
Granpruno was so hungry that he ate all of the food he was given in one sitting. It became clear that he was abandoned and in need of immediate medical attention. The couple, both of whom volunteer for Chatons Orphelins Montréal, took him to their rescue for help where he was estimated by the vet to be nine years old.
"Test results showed that he had hyperthyroidism, which is believed to be the cause of his decline. He started treatment straight away and has been doing well since," Celine explained. "He went back to Steph and Francis to be fostered, and immediately found his place on their bed. He loved other animals and was friendly to everyone."
At heart, Granpruno is still basically a kitten, and he was immediately ready to be doted on by his people. His thyroid issues have been stabilized, and healthy at last, he started having fun as an indoor cat.
"He is very gentle and affectionate. He likes to tell his humans about his day and demand cuddles. He will roll on his back for belly rubs and run after feather toys like a kitten," she added: "He always wants to be close to his humans and follows them everywhere to see what they are doing."
When he was rescued, Granpruno was afraid of the cat carrier, but now, he is confidently living everyday to the fullest and even taking walks with his humans! Today, he's basically as teddy bear who constantly craves attention.
"Steph called and told me that Granpruno is happy with them. His health is under control, and they would like to be by his side for the rest of his life. I cried happy tears." He found his forever home, and we are so happy for him.
