It may be mighty annoying for the social hermits among us, but it's true: there's barely a professional role out there where your position can't be improved with a lot of networking. Once upon a time, this was done through meetings, and dinner, and completely casual water cooler chats.
Nowadays, though, careerists everywhere have another, even more excruciating weapon in their arsenal. LinkedIn has been pressuring everyone with half a degree and an eye on a nice desk chair to sell themselves for nearly twenty years, but it's only recently that people have caught on to its mental effects.
Making a comparison between the profession-based social network and Instagram, @bonanzibih claimed that the former was worse for making us feel bad about ourselves. Plenty of others chimed in to agree, citing the way its constant stream of achievements were a surefire way to make anyone feel inferior. Climbing the career ladder is hard enough without seeing everyone else do it better than you.
