By this point, we all know that we live in a society. But do we live in a community? Many of us live lives that revolve around our house, our workplace, and maybe a bar or restaurant at the weekend, but little else. Modern life can be quite isolating, if we really think about it.
This has been underlined in a thoughtful TikTok by @nathanallebach, lamenting the lack of "third places" in many parts of the U.S. — i.e., places to hang out that aren't work/school or home. He notes that a lack of walkability in many cities has contributed to people being unable to build a sense of community as they may have done in the past.
Most viewers wholeheartedly agreed with his explanation, with many rallying behind the idea that there is a need for more community space pretty much everywhere. It doesn't just take a village to raise a child, it's also needed to keep adults happy, too.
