The term 'philosophy' literally means 'love of wisdom'. Most people think about a lot of the fundamental questions that philosophers ask. But they don't necessarily do it with an intense thirst for the answer. That is what differentiates people who are into philosophy, and those who are not. For example, I'm sure a lot of you have found yourself (after one too many drinks) at one point or another, saying 'Who am I? Why am I here? How do I know I am here at all? What do I know about being here?' and then the next morning go about your lives because the moment has passed.
People who study philosophy, whether because they have to or because they want to, tend to dwell on those questions. They come up with different theories as to the 'why', and maybe become super famous, like Aristotle, Nietzsche, or Socrates. Or you're overlooked (Musonius Rufus, ahem) or forgotten (I don't have an example for this one because, well, duh).
