Font - Today I had an interview. Manager asked literally one question, I didn't know the answer but I said I would research the topic to find out. Then he said "okay no point asking you anything else".

Font - I felt stupid and cried after interview. Not because of the fact I didn't know the answer but because he just shut me down and didn't want to ask anything else so I could redeem myself.

Font - I have anxiety and was shaking whole day bafore interview. Now I'm scared even more to go to another one.

Font - WorkMeBaby1MoreTime 1 day ago "I didn't know the answer but I said I would research the topic to find out" That's the best possible answer. As a matter of fact, when my son got a high powered corporate job, I told him to memorize this. The guy you interviewed with was a di, this is on him. It's gonna take him a while to fill that, he'll probably complain that "nobody wants to work", while actually BEING THE PROBLEM. So the short answer is, be glad you don't work for that guy. I bet everyb

Font - lumedesigns 1 day ago Wow that's super unprofessional of the manager, you dodged a bullet because it was probably a toxic or micromanaging company that would have been nasty to work with. Keep at it and you'll get there eventually!

Font - NoInterview6497 1 day ago Chiming in to co-sign this. Any manager who approaches an interview adversarially is going to be nightmare as a boss. Also, as a rule of thumb, people who approach problem solving as a binary mission (sometimes this can present as a litmus test) tend to be very difficult to collaborate with-just over all dodged a bullet!!

Font - scottjl 1 day ago literally the first thing i thought after reading the OP was "that's not a company i'd want to work for."

Font - Nij-megan 1 day ago I agree, I had this happen to me! Honestly I had the experience but I was just exhausted after 2 hours of questions. He took that as inexperienced and I came to find out his entire team of 20 had just quit! Keep looking and practicing for the next interview, good hiring managers just want to connect with good employees.

Font - Dramallamakuzco 1 day ago Yeah I think maybe the tone and wording could've been changed because he might've been looking to see if OP had background so they could get a basis level of how much training they might need and then since OP didn't know, any follow ups about the topic would be pointless so it could've been "ah no worries, I won't ask further questions about that" but if it was spoken in a disapproving tone as "no point in continuing this interview since you didn't know this and

Font - RevChild 1 day ago I work as a recruiter and 100% agree with this. Interviews are supposed to be a two-way street where you both work collaboratively to see if you could work well with each other, not to see if you could work well with them. If they're treating you like that, first of all it's absolutely nothing to do with you as a person or as a professional, and second it's a huge red flag. How an application process moves is always a really good indicator of how an organisation will tr

Font - In my job 9 times out of 10 I spend as much time prepping clients on how to interview as I do helping candidates prepare for interviews and I still get horror stories where it's entirely the clients fault and not a reflection on the candidate at all.

Font - Versaiteis 17 hr. ago "Really? Like I'm not a vessel of perfect knowledge, there's going to be stuff I don't know. At least I'm not afraid to dive headfirst into that abyss and try and wrestle something worthwhile out of it. But yeah, you're right, there's no point in answering any more of your questions." Naturally followed by the pain of realizing that's what you wanted to say. At least the outcome is probably for the best. You really have to throw out some bloody red flags to make an o

Font - kapt_so_krunchy . 9 hr. ago Totally agree this is unprofessional and a terrible thing to say during an interview. When I read stuff like this I wonder what sort of psychological effects being a manager has on a person? I was a retail manager in my early 20s and managed a store of 8 people. In my mind, I was hilarious. Always chopping it up with the team, cracking wise. Busting balls. In my mind, I was pretty easy going. I let the little stuff slide and knew when to get people back in line

Font - The reality was I was a huge as hole to everyone. I said offensive things to people. I hurt their feelings. And I just enforced rules whenever it suited me or I felt like it. As I was getting fired and explaining that we just had fun at my store my boss said "Everyone here is unhappy. And it's because of you. You're their boss. They can't tell you that you're an a hole." Anyway I wonder if this manager just thought they were being clever and had a story to share with an AM.

Font - Zahrad70 1 day ago Wait. This was a second interview? Yeah, that's cra. I've done cattle-call 12 interviews in 8 hours type of stuff, where towards the end of the day of you've seen several solid candidates and the person in front of you is not able to answer the first few questions. You know you're not hiring them, but that is still no reason to be rude. Reply Share 140 ThatFaithlessness101 OP 1 day ago I wouldn't mind being rejected after 1st round of interview. Font - Schmelter 23 hr. ago Is it the best answer though? If I was interviewing someone for a programming job, and I asked them "What's the difference between an Object and a Class?" Answering by telling me they would "research it" would be the worst possible answer. I'm not saying the manager wasn't a d, just that some questions are so basic that "researching it" clearly shows you're not qualified.

Font - MOTIVATE_ME_23 19 hr. ago Respond with, "Is there someone else higher up the chain who is actually familiar with the job requirements? I'm sorry to be rude, but you obviously aren't knowledgeable enough to get a sense of the job because you don't know which job i applied for. Please get your manager." This guy is not front line or your direct manager, but just high enough to have veto power and hav it gobto his head.

Font - tButylLithium 1 day ago . At least you didn't take the job and find out on the first day. Their reaction is a reflection on them, not you. Try not to get discouraged

Font - Bigeye06360 It happened to me once. The interviewer straight up started to rant on me, but at one point I got frustrated and ranted on his rant, I screen shared and showed the job description for the role and I just exited the interview abruptly saying I have no time for this. . 1 day ago

Font - torte-petite 1 day ago Even if the job desc didn't claim they'd teach you everything you'd need to know, asking a single question and then clamming up after a snide remark is extremely rude and self-defeating behavior. Unfortunately, there's always going to be people like that floating around, but most people are more decent.

Font - Mr-JohnnyPlays 1 day ago Yup welcome to the interview process. Its a way for insecure people to power trip and flex "superiority". I was unemployed for 2 years and this was a common occurrence for interviews unfortunately. Just keep pressing on

Font - vicaphit 1 day ago Interviewers are not your superiors until they are. If you feel like you're being rejected for a dumb reason, TELL THEM. "I wouldn't want to work for you after making a comment like that. Please remove my name from your list."
