Eating food that has touched unsanitary surfaces is revolting for some people and, as far as gross environments go, motel bathrooms are arguably the most disgusting communal areas known to man. Motel bathrooms are basically a receptacle for all human excretions and it's not always cleaned (or nuked?) appropriately. However, for one non-discriminating foodie has combined the horrors of motel bathrooms with the culinary arts, building his entire social media platform on creating elaborate recipes on the go, turning motel bathrooms into a make-shift kitchen. Barfly7777, a middle-aged American man has turned the culinary game upside down and has gone viral by sharing his impressive, but somehow still disgusting hotel bathroom recipes with favorites such as "Trashcan Pork", "Hotel Countertop Pizza", and "Toaster Chicken".

When you're traveling, it's actually pretty tough to keep your dining budget to a minimum. Since most people wouldn't consider cooking in a hotel (for obvious reasons), that pretty much forces you to go out and spend money on take out, fast food, or even a restaurant. Barfly was fed up with his dining choices when traveling for work and decided to start cooking using only the things included in your hotel stay– the ice bucket, a toaster, hot plates, coffee makers, hairdryers, irons, and towels.
There is absolutely no doubt that Barfly is creative and innovative, but most of his viewers have a pretty strong knee-jerk reaction to questioning the hygienic nature of his “kitchen”. Oftentimes, he'll use random assortments of receptacles to stir, mix, cut or combine ingredients, which makes you wonder… how sanitary could this really be?
Most of Barfly's videos are riddled with questioning comments from people who probably don't believe in the five second rule. Rightfully so, tons of people are a little bit grossed out by the idea of boiling pork shoulders in a hotel trash can. Then again, Barfly's final product always looks pretty professionally done. The food itself looks amazing and delicious, it's just the process that people are concerned with.
We can question Barfly's techniques all we want, but at the end of the day, all of us secretly want to try that hotel sink pasta.
Barfly's videos have been shocking to many people but inspiring to a handful of others including wanderlust travelers and people down on their luck who are living in motels. What's really incredible is that Barfly has created a positive association with motel life, which has empowered a number of folks to go out and attempt to cook for themselves, even when things seem desperately impossible.
At the end of the day, if Barfly want's to cook ravioli in a hotel bathroom, power to him. For someone who has to travel a lot for work or needs to stay in kitchen wastelands for any extended period of time, he's provided a roadmap to delicate cuisine on a budget. So maybe Barfly has something here, or perhaps this life style has granted Barfly the ultimate illness immunity. We may never know.
