A landlord on TikTok is going viral for exactly the reason you’d expect a landlord to go viral: he really, really sucks. Raul Bolufe, a Miami property owner, has been posting TikTok’s since 2022 in hopes of a career as an influencer, not unlike other soulless landlords. His only viral videos so far show him attempting to double his tenants rent from $1200 to $2200, and it’s getting a hilarious amount of backlash.

Despite vying to be the Joe Rogan of the real estate world, who’s made a killing with viral fame, Bolufe’s fame is shaping up to more resemble the likes of Pharma-bro Martin Shkreli, or Elon Musk, who fires people with a smile.  Essentially, a profits-obsessed cypher who finds joy and merriment in exploiting people, then posting it all online. Thankfully, TikTok users are mostly taking the side of the tenant, a woman with kids who works two jobs. “the man has the moral compass of a Disney villain.” wrote one user, while several others are pointing out that doubling rent on such short notice, is in fact, illegal.

Part two of the video is where things heat up. The tenant, who is valiantly refusing to budge on the rent, states she’ll burn down the house “so nobody gets anything”. When a fame-seeking real estate bro comes knocking, sometimes you have to go scorched-earth.

In part 3, Boluge shows up at her property, but she’s changed the locks on the house. The landlord threatens to “come back with the Sheriff”, which surprisingly, doesn’t scare our hero tenant. Part 4 shows the landlord lowering the offer to $1900, but the tenant doesn’t back down, saying “I still think you’re a criminal for even trying to do this.” Well, dear tenant, everyone seems to agree with you.

The final follow-up video has Raul Bolufe admitting that trying to double the rent “was crazy”, so we can only hope this was a victory for the tenant. If she did succeed, it's not only a victory for her, but a victory for all those who bravely oppose the real enemy: adults who post on TikTok.
