The human race: we're a pretty embarrassing species. First, we invent one of the most developed concepts of shame in the animal kingdom, then we decide to ignore it in favor of indulging all of our worst base impulses. Even worse, different people ignore it at different times while others look on in horror, and cringe.
None of us are free of being cringeworthy from time to time, but not everybody puts it out in the ruthless arena of the internet. Never before have our brains been exposed to such a high level of pure cringe, and we're probably evolving in weird ways because of it.
It's not like that's going to make us stop seeking it out, though. It may be horrible, but it's also kind of addictive. We like the reassurance that we will never act like some of the worst examples of it as well. At least, we hope that we won't.
