Font - My husband of 25 years decided he wanted to split up. I unsuccessfully begged him to change his mind, and spent a lot of nights crying on the bathroom floor.

Font - One thing to note is that I carried the health insurance for the family. He is self-employed. When he wouldn't change his mind, we filed for legal separation and he moved out. In the meantime, I got a BANGIN' new job that covers

Font - 100% of the health and dental insurance premiums for the entire family, with a $100 deductible. Sweeeeet. He is still allowed to be on my insurance, since we are legally separated rather than divorced, and it costs me nothing to have

Font - him on my insurance. But I am petty as hell. So I charge him $400 a month for something that costs me $0. He of course is welcome to get insurance on his own in the marketplace, which would probably cost at least 2x that amount for an equivalent policy. I make sure he knows it

Font - costs me nothing, nada, zip to have him on my insurance, and that his $400/month payment is funding my upcoming trip to Spain. If you have a legal separation, getting a divorce in my state is just a matter of filing a form and

Font - paying $60. If I did that, he couldn't be on my insurance anymore. So he is basically paying me $400 a month not to file for divorce, after not wanting to be married anymore. I love it.

Font - Edited to respond to comments: This approach was approved my my family law attorney, my estate attorney, his attorney, my health insurance company, and my employer. So if you know better than all those parties combined, have at it.

Font - I reported the income to the IRS. People who say things like "But what about alimony?" clearly don't understand how any of this works. I can't look at comments anymore, just too many.

Font - Since it's a payroll deduction he doesn't have to actually DO anything, but it was what the divorce decree granted her after over 20 years of marriage. And she didn't have to give it up when she remarried either. 513 Reply Share

Font - kosmonaut5 - 15 hr. ago This is absolutely tragic that the USA ppl have insurance attached to their jobs. I hear that people could be forced to stay in bad/ab sive relationships to keep health insurance.

Font - JunkerPilot 15 hr. ago Where's the petty revenge? It was his choice to leave you. It was his idea to stay on your insurance. Now he gets to live like he's single and he gets a great deal on insurance? How is this not a win for him? It's all things he wants and asked for.

Font - You wanted him, it hurt when he left, and now he kicks you change under the table to get one heck of a deal without being in your life in any other shape or form.

Font - Wouldn't it stick it to him more if you did divorce and he was forced to pay double on his own? It would be the first thing mentioned that you choose and he didn't want. ↑ 61 Reply Share

Font - The guy didn't want to stick with her anymore, decided it was convenient to leave without taking any legal action to still enjoy benefits that were in his interest and moved on to live his life from the sound of it.
