HOAs will stop at nothing to be annoying, even if it means spending a significant portion of their budget on legal fees. This is a great example of the uselessness of HOA board members to society and how their enforcement of ridiculous rules and outdated policies ultimately serve no one except for the bored Karens of the world with way too much time on their hands.
This thread was posted to Reddit's r/MaliciousCompliance subreddit by u/FirstContribution236, who had recently installed cameras on their house for obvious security purposes. If the cameras pointed to any of their neighbors' private property, the Redditor ensured that those areas were grayed out. However, while one neighbor had no problem with this, one Karen very much did have a problem. Of course, she was a member of the neighborhood's HOA, and when the Redditor received a strongly worded letter insisting that they take down the cameras or else there would be a hearing, OP knew they had already lost.
However, OP would not go without a fight and made sure to prolong said hearing and to keep the HOA's fancy lawyer busy on the case. That meant that over the course of several months, the lawyer billed a ton of hours and the HOA wound up spending over $4,000 in legal fees alone. At the end of the day, the most the HOA could do was write a sassy letter to the neighbors, and the neighbors took down the cameras.
Ah, but there's more. Keep scrolling below to see how the neighbors then found a loophole that would allow them to keep their cameras up too. For more stories like this, here's one about a neighbor's fight with a busybody Karen.
