Sometimes, being a rule follower can lead to finding clever loopholes. This HR Karen tried to deny a student worker their rightfully earned holiday pay and raise by claiming that it was "union policy." To clarify, the policy was that after working at the grocery store for a certain period (three or more months), workers are entitled to holiday pay and raises. The policy also makes allowances for students who have to go back to school during that period. This Redditor was one of those students who had worked more than three months and who earned the right to holiday pay. However, Karen from HR tried to make the Redditor start from scratch after leaving and returning from college. This wasn't how the policy was meant to be followed, but Karen seemed insistent.
That's when OP found a clever loophole within the policy. Technically, the student did not have to work on Sundays or holidays, so she immediately decided to use those privileges for Memorial Day weekend and for the Fourth of July weekend, which completely ruined Karen's schedule. However, there was nothing Karen could really do about that because, as she herself said earlier, this was "union policy."
