Annual performance reviews are just all-around 'meh', but if you have some beef with your boss, it's even worse. OP had just that — a performance review that they weren't exactly looking forward to. Their boss took the opportunity to criticize their ability to keep track of and finish simple tasks. The company didn't invest in a task management solution, and OP was finding it hard to go off a massive email chain when as it turns out, between the 30 people who were CC'd, 25 didn't know the difference between 'reply' and 'reply all'. You can imagine how hard it was for OP, but their boss was relentless.
So, what do you do when your boss fails to listen to the voice of reason? Well, you hatch a plan to maliciously comply, of course. This plan included OP developing a simple task manager, that would be used only by them. They spent the entire weekend working on it, making sure it was just right… so that they could, of course, keep track of everything.
When I say everything, I truly do mean everything. OP basically kept track of the minutes! Phone calls, emails, you name it. Then came OP's time to shine. Their boss sent them the usual rebuke of 'Why must I ask you 5 times to complete such and such task?' when in reality, they had asked once, and the task was already completed. Scroll down to read how OP countered his boss's complaint.
