Font - This started about 4 years ago or so. Background: I was a regional manager for a manufacturer. My territory was 26 states. I got a car allowance, $700 per month, that was for my car usage for work. For non drive travel, I could do whatever I want, within reason, but it couldn't exceed X% of sales.
  • 03
Font - Where I live, there are some parts of my territory that I had to drive to, there were no flights available, without significant wasted times connecting. Think...driving to Boston 1 hr, to connect through NY or Philly, and then to Syracuse NY or Rochester NY.
  • 04
Font - For any drive over 4 hours, I'd rent a car at the local rental office vs flying. However, the bean counters caught me doing this and reminded me about my car allowance and I shouldn't be renting cars from "home".
  • 05
Handwriting - Malicious Compliance: From then on, I would fly to these places. Flying to Rochester, NY? A 5.5 hr drive before but now I'd drive the 1hr to Boston, fly to Detroit 1.5 hours, connect 1hr layover to fly to Rochester 1 hr. Have

Font - to fly in a day early, and stay a day later. So instead of a 1 night trip, it turned into a 3 day trip. Instead of $500 trip it turned into a $1500+ trip, between flights/extra hotel nights/food etc...oh and the rental car.
  • 07
Font - This went on for 4 years till I recently switched companies. Any travel outside of New England turned into a multiple night trip with flights and hotel/meals etc. It probably cost the company $10,000 a year in useless extra trip costs.

Font - +3.22 hr. ago I got in trouble for booking a limo for eight people to get to the airport to fly home, even though it was far cheaper than taxi service for eight. CoderJoe1

Font - +4- 19 hr. ago Same. The next time we took 2 taxis and it was 1.5x more. PRMan99 They asked why it was more than last time. "Because you complained about the limo."

Font - nurvingiel 11 hr. ago +2. I work for a small local company and the "rule" is "do the most sensible thing" so this seems insane to me. I'm sure you're right though.

Font - crash866 +2. 18 hr. ago A friend of mine lives a 15 min walk from a small airport. 20 Km from Major airport. Small airport flies into NYC, Boston, Philadelphia and other cities in the area. Flights leave early morning and back late at night. Not the approved airline for his company. Cheaper for the flights than from the major airport. He flies to one of the cities once a week for 1 day at a time. Company said he had to use approved airline.
  • 16
Font - Now he leaves the night before spends $50-$60 on Uber or Taxi to other airport takes late night flight as first one in the morning would get him there too late. Rents a car in NYC and spends night in hotel. Goes to meetings and takes late night flight home. Uber to home.
  • 17
Font - Now they have 2 Uber bills and a nights accommodation to pay. (Plus meals). No questions asked when he submits $1000 or more expenses. All this to use their approved airline which is $100-$200 more than the small one a 15 min walk from home.
