By all accounts, I should be relaxing on a much-needed weekend break right now. Instead, I'm typing on my laptop while propped up by hotel pillows. The benefits of remote work are many, but the silent expectation of permanent availability is not one of them. The toxic framework of American corporate culture also doesn't help matters.
For every tiny advance that we make in the workplace, there always seems to be a step back that happens alongside it. Sure, some of us get lucky with our bosses, or co-workers, or even the stuff we do every day, but that doesn't change the fact that having a job can create an unnecessary amount of stress for the return of what we get paid.
With all these frustrations, it's just as well that we have so many relatable work memes. There are far unhealthier ways to blow off some steam, clocked in or not.
