Organism - Short and sweet, because this a little lame and probably only slightly less common than airplane seat switch requests. Shopping at BJs (like Costco, but much funnier name) one evening

Font - a couple of weeks ago.Shop took longer than usual, so I was in danger of holding up dinner with my family. At the checkout there was a little bit of a delay in front, but I was just scrolling Reddit for the extra 10 mins.

Font - There was nobody behind me as I started loading my items on the belt. Then a lady (60+) approached and said, "Can I go before you as I only have a few items?" (99% sure she gave no 'please'). Meanwhile trying

Font - to pile her approximately 20 items into the cart's kiddy seat, I guess to make it look like a smaller amount. (Context: I had approximately 25 items, but some were larger so it may have looked more.)

Font - "No, I'm sorry, I've been waiting ages, the ice cream is melting and I'm in a rush to get home.""Oh you!" she said. "What?! There are free tills over there." I said, gesturing to the self-checkout and manned till,

Smile - away."Nobody tells you." she off, you old "I said. now empty yards me what to do. said."Oh No idea where "old" came from - not usually in my vocabulary. Gave my wife a chuckle when I told her.

Font - ajones8820 1 day ago Love this I live near some retirement complexes and get older customers all the time asking me to let them go ahead of me because they were in a rush, but I stopped after the second

Font - time they had a few minute long conversation with the cashier despite them being in a "rush" and I typically am purchasing 10 items or less anyway so they can s ck it up and not waste my time

Font - pinkstreetstudios. 1 day ago I live in a retirement community and the level of entitlement is causing me to move out. Never realized it was this bad. It's bizarre.

Vertebrate - richbeezy 1 day ago In a "rush" for what? Oh no, she'll be late for bingo later.

Font - Dragon Within 6 hr. ago Everyone is in a rush. Some of us just plan for it better. Maybe they'll give themselves a little extra time to deal with their errands, but either way, not my problem.

Font - PennyArena 1 day ago Nobody tells me what to do Pretty sure you just told her she can't cut in front of you and she took it like the whiny weak baby she is, though lol

Rectangle - TheManWith2Poobrains OP - 1 day ago Good point. Refusing someone is telling them what they cannot do.

Font - MMLCG 1 day ago She is allowed to ask. You are allowed to say no. She elevated it, and then got what was coming to her. ΝΤΑ

Font - NoAd1562 1 day ago These weird interactions are another reason I prefer the self checkout lane. If a person has one item in their hand and I have a ton and aren't in a hurry I might let them go.

Font - But asking to cut does seem very entitled. If you have time to go to the store whatever you're late for can't be that important. It's not like she had the heart for a transplant patient in a cooler and ran in to get some ice.

Font - TheManWith2Poobrains OP. 10 hr. ago I had a large lump of meat which doesn't scan and some beer which needed ID, which always takes so long at the self-checkout. Otherwise, yes, I'd have been there.

Font - ElizaJaneVegas 21 hr. ago Some commenters are making this about age -- it is not. This is about people that think they are entitled to special treatment, that 'ask' for preference and are outraged when it is not given. Like toddlers, they tantrum when told 'no.'

Font - I've not experienced an age tendency in entitlement. I've seen teenagers, 20-somethings, the age gamut. The older retiree asking for preference was doing this 60 years ago -- it isn't something that comes with age... it just becomes more practiced.

Font - Orchart1010 23 hr. ago Were you wondering if you were the AH? It's very obvious you weren't. LOL. Going ahead of someone is something I've only asked in the case of an emergency and I've only ever offered because I can see that the person behind me has a candy bar and I'm shopping for the whole week.

Font - acer-bic 21 hr. ago Criminy. If someone offers to let me go ahead, I accept. But I would NEVER ask someone to go ahead of them. So rude.
