One night a guy comes in with his wife/gf. He orders a filet medium rare, and the cook rarely misses a temp. We bring out the steak he cuts into it and says it's not right, sends it back to cook it a bit longer which we do no problem totally reasonable. This goes on five more times, the manager gets involved and ensures it will be perfect and gives the chef a look I know he is being unreasonable. Que the chef, who is the most professional and easy going guy i've ever worked with. He looks at me

He takes the steak drops it on the ground and drags it with his foot across the entire kitchen and kicks its by the grease trap steps on it then places it back on the grill. I run it back out the guy thanks me and said the steak is perfect. I report back to the chef, and he says in his 30+ years of being in the kitchen he's never had a steak come back that many times. We never spoke about it again.

NeverFence 8 hr. ago First and foremost, if a customer is that - you train your FOH to eventually just say to them 'I'm sorry but we are not going to be able to satisfy your requirements' or whatever. Comp their bill, send them on their way. Some people do stuff like this for fun, and you only hurt yourself and your business to keep trying to appease them. Second, that Chef should've refused to serve that customer anymore and upheld his personal integrity instead of doing some garbage to food th

sneekinbye 8 hr. ago As a cook that primarily runs grill, that is absolutely disgusting. On a side note, I had a similar experience with a blue rare steak at a resort in Montana. 3 times it was sent back, my chef decided to deep fry the steak for 30 seconds. He absolutely loved it and sent a tip just for the chef that cooked it. Reply Share 215

JefaDePatata 8 hr. ago This is gross. I have had a person bring a steak 5 times when it was cooked perfectly the first time, and I never once thought about doing something like this. That chef needs to leave the kitchen for good. I hope this is fake.

multidollar 7 hr. ago This isn't petty revenge. Petty revenge makes you go “ahahahaha that got them". This is a violation of someone, and totally disgusting. No one was mature here.

JustAnOld Haole - 8 hr. ago Something similar happened at a place I used to work at. Only difference was on the fourth time back the steak went into the deep fat fryer for a minute. I took it back, everything fine. I had to bite the inside of my cheek to stop myself from laughing.

texasradioandthebigb 8 hr. ago How is this petty revenge? You admit to being a party to food tampering, and seem to be proudly boating about something which is a felony in many US states. Yes, the customer seems to have been annoying, and the restaurant would have been well within its rights to kick him out, and ban him. But, the real in this story is you, and your kitchen team

Many-Tap2462 - 6 hr. ago I worked at a diner as a teen. Customer ordered liver and onions. Didn't like the way it was cooked. It went back. Diner owner cut off around the piece he ate, hosed it off in the sink, plopped it back in the fridge, and carried on with her day. That scene still haunts me 15 years later. Makes me think things like that happened there all the time. GROSS.

I'll only ever send something back once before conceding. Even still, sending food back just once ruins the whole experience for me. The fear of my food being violated makes it taste less good; it's like a wet blanket all over my meal.

Super_Selection1522 7 hr. ago Ok, but sometimes it has to go back. I rarely send stuff back but one time they brought my steak medium when I asked for it medium well. Everytime they brought the steak it was medium. 3x, they brought medium. I didn't even have to cut it, I could tell by touching it, although I did cut it to show the wait staff. And I would have been fine with them cooking the same steak more but it was a new one every time. Also would have been fine ordering something else but it
