You say "flyover states," I say home. Sure, we're a little landlocked, flat, and culturally dry sometimes, but have you ever seen Lake Michigan? Or the Indiana Dunes? Or Touchdown Jesus at Notre Dame? It's one of the eight wonders of the world in the Midwest. I think one of the reasons I appreciate the Midwest is that we're humble. We know we don't have the glitz and the glamor of the coasts and we don't pretend to. We like our soups cheesy, our beers cold, and our parking spaces shoveled. It's really that simple.
Growing up in the midwest gives you a sense of humility and self-effacingness that I feel like other regions lack. We know how to take a joke and we know how to not take things so seriously. It's a valuable trait. Everybody loves to talk about Southern hospitality, but it's Midwest charm that takes the cake for me.
