Being charged with the responsibility of a section of a business usually means that it's implied that you'll hold that section's interests at a level of most importance and not jeopardize them over petty slights and egotistical battles with your subordinates and external parties. Yet, some people can't help themselves and let their ego get involved in every possible decision, finding themselves battling for superiority at every step of the way rather than managing the task they've been employed to manage. It doesn't help that a lot of organizations' hiring and promotion processes usually take advantage of these types of personalities since confidence and bravado usually top the charts of desirable leadership traits over necessary things like experience.
This worker had a standing arrangement with their existing managers that worked well for all parties, ensuring that the fast food joint where they worked was maximizing productivity while giving the worker flexibility and time off that they needed. It was, however, an unorthodox arrangement, so when their boss was promoted, and a new one took up the reigns of the location, they were quick to put it at an end, leading to the worker's resignation and a tanking of the location's profits that sent the new boss packing.
