Woman Mocks Brother-in-law’s Financial Status After He Slanders Her Husband at Dinner, Leading to Family Dispute

Welcome back ladies and gentlemen of the internet. They say you can choose your friends, but you can't choose your family. You can even choose your partners, but you can't choose your family member's partners either. It's more than disappointing to have a sibling who married someone you don't see eye to eye with. Family dinners, events, and reunions somehow always have to have that one uncle, that one in-law who just causes copious amounts of drama to everyone. The one always trying to start a fight, or drinking too much. It's enough to cause entire family dynamics to fall. 

This brings us to the Reddit thread. This woman and her husband have been giving financial handouts to the woman's sister for a while now. Once they cut back some of the money, the brother-in-law gets fussy. This is when all the words you'll regret saying are thrown around, but it's entertaining while it lasts.

    I invited my sister and her kids to dinner. I haven't seen her this week (I visit every week). BIL came as well. I always try to avoid BIL but we can manage to eat dinner without fighting.     He went as far as giving his "opinion and advice" (aka insulting my husband) and saying that it's sad that all I can afford is to marry a garbage man who was a truck driver, saying "Imagine the kind of language he'd be using", and other very insulting things.

    Ironically, my husband is way more civilized than BIL, is respectful, open-minded, smart, kind, generous, humble, and doesn't have an ounce of entitlement. Everything that BIL lacks. (side note: and is really handsome)

    I'd tell sister to put BIL on a leash. You don't have to give them money. He needs to be respectful or not accept the money. You are not wrong her because he said insulting things to you in front of the children which will make them have similar opinions over time. You

    have to defend yourself. I think you were a bit too nice. but that's just me. They need to stop depending on you to take care of their 6 kids. They made these choices. It's their job to take care of them. Not yours. You're the aunt. Stop letting them take advantage of you.
