"Nobody should have to work [THAT hard] and get no benefits in return. Shameful."

I quit and I am happy. Short I need to ask y'all this. Do you get any benefits at your job? After a year and a half busting my I had the audacity to ask about paid time off and stupid me expected like a week. You know, nothing crazy. With my pay that would have been equal to $500 or so after tax. PER YEAR.

Now get this: They had the guts to let my GM tell me "we don't do that here". My reply was "Okay, in that case I quit!" And I did exactly that. Gave them a two week notice in which they were of course not able to find adequate replacement.

Not bragging, but I was their best worker. 3-11 always, got nothing but good reviews, stressed myself out to the max. Entitled guests, the most petty complaints, up to 70 check-ins by myself per shift. It slowly sinks in that there are too many out there being treated like this. That's scandalous. Nobody should have to work their off and get no benefits in return. Shameful.

SkwrlTail Yeah, a lot of places are finding out that hey, you actually need to compensate your workers. If you're paying less than the burger place, then you will get people who can't get jobs at the burger place...

evaintheus My pay was a-okay for my area I'd say. Started at $15 and argued my way up to $17. Was okay for side money. But the fact that they don't offer ANY benefits like sick leave or paid time off was the last straw. I can only imagine how it is for people that actually need and rely on health insurance by their employer?! Luckily I didn't need all that but a little paid time off would sure have been respectful.

VermilionKoala I wouldn't have given any notice in that situation, not under US law. They on you, on them back. They can go themselves.

Signed, someone from a country where the legal minimum PTO is 20 days/year (though this technically includes national holidays, only the most dickheaded company you could imagine would actually do that).

evaintheus I didn't want to harm my GM which was a cool dude. His hands were tied by the owners though. I am from Germany myself where the minimum paid leave is also 4 weeks, no matter if cleaning lady or factory worker. And the labor laws are very strict and very pro-employee! After all this time here some stuff still blows my mind.

thecheat420 I actually quit Monday too. I was also 3-11 who did more than I probably should have and just wasn't properly appreciated after 3 years there. On to bigger and better things for both of us.

RoyallyOakie Outrageous. You spend your days helping people out when they're on vacation, but you're not entitled to your own. Then they'll say like "nobody wants to work anymore." I sincerely hope that GM is stuck picking up the slack.

Javaman1960 And they will say "Nobody wants to work anymore!" Conveniently leaving out the last part "for low wages and without benefits." conditions

Embarrassed-Hat-9... i, I'm fortunate to be able to earn some PTO even if it adds up slow. I work night audit and my managers will cover my PTO requests & are even hiring a swing shift that can cover some overnights. That said, I would never work any other shift at my hotel. Right around 7 when I leave is when guests start to come down and about stuff. No way i could handle that all day

PensionCertain6810 I'm not defending them and not trying to be a but I know every time I interview for a job, first 2 things I need to know so we don't waste each other's time. What's the pay and what's the benefits and PTO! I won't accept a job without knowing that. You are correct though. I don't know how people work with benefits and little or no paid time off. It's expensive enough to live these days, shouldn't have to stress about money every time you want to take time off from work.

evaintheus When I interviewed I asked those questions and I was told that after one year there would be benefits. Of course noone but me remembers that was ever said. One could blame it on the language barrier (not from me!) or misunderstanding. At the time it didn't really matter to me to be honest, just wanted to get a little job to get out of the house. But after busting my there for so long without ANY appreciation at all I found out that I don't belong in hospitality. The rage I took home w
