Nobody wants a lazy coworker. Especially when they attempt to take all of the credit for work that you and your competent coworkers complete. It's reminiscent of early school days when your group project partner would pass off your work as their own. It's actually the exact same thing. At least in the elementary days, most students would be candid about their laziness. Once you make it to the workforce, the big leagues, it's like a contest for who can do the least and lie the most begins.
The original poster (OP) of this story complains about a coworker who does less than the bare minimum. This coworker disappears from the office for hours at a time, makes mistakes on almost every task he completes (when he rarely completes them at all), and has even tried to throw the OP and his team under the bus for false reasons. After the lazy coworker takes a week off from work, the OP and the rest of his team's efficiency skyrocket. The OP mentions that he even had less work to complete because he wasn't tasked with fixing up Mr. Lazy's mistakes. Sometimes, you don't need to do anything at all to get the outcome you want and deserve.
