AITA for refusing to pay my sister's honeymoon expenses after she trashed my wedding dress?
  • 03
So, this is a bit of a mess. I (30F) got married two months ago, and it was supposed to be a dream wedding. My sister, Emma (26F), was my maid of honor, and we were really close... or so I thought.
  • 04
A few days before the wedding, I noticed Emma acting a bit weird. She kept making these little comments about how everything seemed "over the top" and asking if I thought my fiancé was really "ready." I just brushed it off as pre-wedding nerves on her part and didn't think much of it.

Fast forward to the wedding day. My dress was custom-made and cost a small fortune, but it was worth every penny. It was exactly what I'd dreamed of since I was a little girl. Emma kept complimenting it, saying it was "the most beautiful thing" she'd ever seen.
  • 06
We all got ready in a little room at the venue, and at some point, I had to step out to talk to my wedding planner. I left Emma and the bridesmaids behind, not suspecting anything. When I came back, my dress had a massive red wine stain on it, and my sister was looking way too calm for someone who'd just "accidentally" spilled an entire glass of wine.
  • 07
I was in shock, but the bridesmaids immediately started freaking out, trying to fix it, even though it was a lost cause. Emma just shrugged and said, "Well, accidents happen." I was devastated but tried to make the best of it. The day went on, but I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. Later, I found out from one of the bridesmaids that Emma had been complaining for weeks about how I was spending too much on the wedding and even said I was "showing off" with my dress.

To make matters worse, Emma and her husband had been struggling financially, so I was planning to pay for their honeymoon as a surprise. But after everything that happened, I decided not to. When she found out, she lost it and accused me of being "selfish" and "ruining her special experience." She insists that the dress. thing was just an accident, and I'm punishing her for no reason. My parents think I should just let it go and help her out, but honestly, I'm still hurt. AITA?

WhereWeretheAdults 1h ago . NTA. Sis sabotaged your wedding because of her raging jealousy. Has sister even offered to have the dress professionally cleaned? You are not required to play nice.

I'm curious who told her about the entire honeymoon thing. Someone is stirring trouble in your life other than sis. And tell your parents to stay in their lane. This isn't some sibling spat, she hurt you in the most direct way she could. That's abhorrent.

This_Mark5397 1h ago. If someone offered to pay my honeymoon expenses I'd be kissing their . I can't believe siblings actually behave this way towards each other, I have three brothers and two sisters and not once have we ever acted like that. Tell her to kiss your you won't be footing the bill for her end of discussion.

kcatlin1977 • 1h ago. NTA There is no way in , that I would pay for anything after someone ruined something of mine.

    • Clean_Factor9673 1h ago. NTA. There's no way it's an accident when a dress is hanging there and a bitter, jealous person pours wine on it, especially after complaining about your over the top wedding when she's broke.

Pepsilover12 • 1h ago. NTA and nope do not help her out she did it on purpose so now she needs to know actions have consequences and she's reaping hers now. Tell everyone what she did and that's why you aren't paying for her honeymoon you had to use that money to get your dress cleaned and boxed up for safekeeping

HandmaidJam 59m ago. . NTA. Accidents do happen but if she was as calm as you described it was no accident. She sounds like a mean jealous person and doesn't deserve your kindness x

    • Throwaway-2587 47m ago • Nta. Wow. How incredibly cruel en selfish of her. She was so jealous of you that she had to ruin. something for you. I cannot believe she would do that. Guess you're not as close as you thought you were otherwise she could've spoken to you about how she was feeling.
