Parents pay $500 per kid for ski lessons they can't use: 'I'm sure the manager knew what I was doing'

It's the perfect time of year to hit the slopes!

After spending 40 hours per week at work, you get exhausted. This is especially noticeable in the wintertime, when there's less sunlight and the temperatures make you want to curl up in bed until spring. Then there's constant cleaning to do around your home, you need to pick up the dry cleaning and do some shopping, and the kids are going stir-crazy from being cooped up inside during the cold winter months. Why not pack up the car and leave it all behind for a weekend with a nice trip to a ski resort? 

Like many vacation destinations, there's something for everyone to do. The kids can take lessons on the bunny hills until they're confident enough to hit the slopes and go full speed. Parents will want to check out the regular ski slopes, or maybe even check out the most complex hills if they want to really show off! Plus, if grandma and grandpa are coming along for the trip, they can cozy up by the fire in the ski lodge and watch the kids ski all day without ever catching a chill.

    "Maliciously Complianced Myself: Ski Resort"

    Wife and I decided we wanted our kids to learn how to ski so we bought a black Friday deal at the local ski resort of lesson packages. Two of them. They came with 5 lessons, rentals, half day passes, and a season pass after the lessons to the resort for like $500/kid. It was a good deal.

    Anyway we get through 3 lessons early in the season and the kids are getting the hang of it so I request from the lodge if I could have the season passes early so we can go more. The nice lady was like no we don't do that you have to complete the

    Smeegs3 Season pass should apply to the season. I've never heard of a ski resort using annual dates for passes. I would be livid

    [deleted] OP Yeah I didn't quite understand it and that's on me. I assumed it would end in the spring thaw but they are good for a full 12 months after issuance.

    Bob8372 I think a lot of people are confused about what exactly happened. You got to use your passes for a full 12 months after you got them, correct? The post reads a lot like you're getting the passes now and they will expire in 4 weeks bc that's the end of the year.

    [deleted] OP You are probably right. Maybe this will help: the idea is to start kids taking lessons slowly at first. So we signed them up in November 2021. Ideally they'd get to go 5 times in the 21-22 snow season then at the end of that season be issued a pass good for 12 months for the following 22-23 snow season. Because I got it issued early in 21 I can't use it in 23. We would have gotten a lot more skiing in for the $$ if I'd followed the plan.

    … But their insistence made them miss out on an entire year of skiing. Instead of getting to hit the slopes for 24 months, they only have 13 months for the same price.

    InQue623 OP. Yes I did. I feel pretty stupid. I wasn't mean about it in my request but I didn't get what I wanted.

    There are so many times that customers flip out on the person helping them, whether that's an employee or a manager. Of course, we're hearing the customer's side of the story, but they seemed to take a pretty relaxed approach to their big mistake. Instead of blaming the ski resort, they blamed themself. We all make mistakes sometimes!

    at this resort but i of course didn't understand it. I thought like most of you that the season pass ended with the current snow season so i requested the passes early to try and get more use out of them.
