Won't get into too much details, but I was successful in handling a huge issue that was caused by another coworker, which could've left the company in an extremely compromised market position, and a direct cash loss of $50m, at minimum.

Yesterday, I had my performance review and I was really expecting an "exceeded expectations" rating, as I've worked really hard for 3 months on the issue to basically fixing other people's

mistakes, and succeeded in resolving the matter in a way that was never done before in the company. But, instead, i got a "meets expectations".

I didn't object or protest. I am not sure why. I just kept quiet for some reason while listening to my manager praising my work and talking about my future in the company.

Don't get me wrong, I am in full praise and thankful that I have a job. But I can't help not feel 'short changed'. Especially that things are a bit tight on money these days and the extra bonus payout could've really helped. Am I overreacting?

rafaelfnfn These people would give you a simple thumbs up for saving the company from bankruptcy yet they're the same ones who would curse you and your whole family for taking a leave because they're paying your whole soul minimum wage

GoTragedy Bro, same. One third of my job involved process improvements for a division of our company that did over $100M in revenue. I helped them double it in less than 18 months after

starting. The other 2/3 of my job were at or well above targets. That's not to mention extra projects I was involved with that touched well over $1B worth of revenue.

I got my papers on a Monday. No offers, no warning, just "Your job has been eliminated."

EmEffArrr 1003 Oh they love what you did, they just don't need you to do it anymore. They don't care about you, and you shouldn't either
  • 15
zdiddy987 You should care about you. You should not care about them.

Steven K71 You should have left the processes tied to your micromanagement, as a job security feature. It's a job, not a duty.
  • 17
GoTragedy It's a novel idea, but I wouldn't have achieved what I did if it was through micromanagement.

Don't get me wrong, things have gotten worse since I left because I was still very involved but they're far better off than before I started.

sengiro This. I've learned the hard truth and stopped doing anything outside of my scope. I learned how to say "i would love to help but this is outside of my expertise or area".
  • 21
WayneKrane Yep, for the last 10 years I've just resorted to doing the bare minimum. My stress has dropped immensely and my pay has ironically gone up. I try to be slightly more productive than the least productive person, which isn't hard, and then coast the rest of the day

appreciated but were not welcome. Did this by telling me to "stay in my lane". My response: "you got it" then pulled the equipment and tools I brought in removed all my property. slowly removing reference books and art in my office.

Key_Rub4098 OP 100% ... Very accurate and I know a lot of what you've shared - I am a people manager and my HR determines in advance the 'meets vs exceeds' ratio and quota, and it varies every year based on the CFO guidance.

I just thought - in my case - I did something quite exceptional (at least all my peers thought so) to be in the EE category.
  • 26
But you are right. Sometimes managers hands are tied and one has to take one for the team. It just sks to be that person I guess.
