One thing that nobody told me about becoming an adult is how common it is for people in your life to date deadbeat parents. My friend had been dating this girl for two months before he casually mentioned that she had two kids who lived in Florida with her ex and his parents. It's hard not to judge someone spending their days going to the gym and pursuing their art without a care in the world, knowing that they seldom see the people whose lives they created. I'm not saying you shouldn't have a life just because you have a kid, but it's a red flag when barely anyone you spend time with regularly knows you have that kid. Once you have a kid, providing for them and facilitating their lives should become a priority over standup comedy (If you can't tell already, my friend broke things off with this person I'm talking about, thank God).

    No-Company7531 OP I've been living in this neighborhood since childhood and mostly know everyone there and have goodwill among ourselves. She had come to my home a few times and knew that I had goodwill with the neighbors and they have connections with my family too. I don't know if that's why she reached out to them.
