Family relations are never easy. One day you can be on good terms, and by the next you may be shouting at each other. As much as everyone involved wants to have pleasant relations with their family members, it's nearly impossible. If both people want the same thing, then what makes it so difficult to actually make that happen? People get sidetracked, they get selfish, and sometimes they just don't know how to handle situations properly. 

The dynamic between a mother and daughter can be especially complicated. You might have a controlling mother, a mother who's jealous of you, a mother who's your best friend, or a mother who really just fits with you as the perfect mother. It's all up to chance though, and at the end of the day all we can do is work with the situation we're born into. 

In the story below, the protagonist grew up with a relatively strict mother. She wouldn't allow anyone of the opposite gender sleep over, and when they could sleep over they had to sleep in separate rooms. Read the full story below for all the juicy details.

    I think you know where this is going but there's no definitive answer on who's in the wrong. Also, for simplicity sake I'll be saying parents but it is my mother and step father. My mother and stepdad have been together since I was little.

  • It's hard to say who's in the wrong here. I think that the protagonist is in the wrong because she's not respecting the dynamic between mother and daughter. It's not just that it's her home and that she makes the rules, it's also that when she was growing up, her mother's duty was to parent her in whatever way she saw fit. She did it out of parenting reasons, and out of love to make her a better person. The protagonist daughter is doing it for malice and revenge, which is never pretty.

    Edit: a lot of people are confused. At my mothers house, we were not allowed to ever sleep in the same bed. Ever. Only months after we got engaged did my mother allow him to sleep in the spare room. Also, I said I don't mind the rules they have. It's their home but it was the double standard for me.
