Moms are full of love and wisdom, but sometimes, as a teenager, you do not possess the maturity to realize it. You are so caught up in your social life, your expectations of the future, and your school work, that you forget that your mom is a woman who lived through everything you experienced. Still, when we reflect on our teen years, we are able to take some of those pieces of advice to heart. 

I was a really weird kid growing up, and my mom always told me to just be myself. I completely ignored her and spent a lot of my highschool years trying to force myself to like whatever was "cool" at the time. Thankfully, I dropped the charade at some point in college, and the friends I made after making an effort to be true to myself are the best I've ever had.
