This is how you end up friendless later in life, by pushing them away little by little. Our protagonist should take this experience as a lesson going forward.

He could have let her come; I totally understand not wanting to be alone after a sad experience. The issue is that he should have firmly set his boundaries before and throughout the trip.

Man allows wife to tag along on his climbing trip with friends, she takes control of all his plans and guilts him into spending time with her: "I feel gaslit for wanting what I want"
Do you get along with your partner's friends? It's a pretty good sign for the relationship if you do. The company we keep says a lot about ourselves, and not vibing with your SO's lot could actually be a bit of a red flag. I love my boyfriend's friend group, and he gets along swimmingly with my own. However, even though we both love spending time in each others' groups, we sometimes find that we need alone time with our besties to allow our social and private lives to breathe and flourish.
In our story today, a young married man lets his wife join in on his climbing trip. She's sad about rehoming their cat and doesn't want to be alone. However, once on the trip, she takes control over his schedule, guilting him into spending time with her instead of his friends. Is this a red flag that could end the relationship, or does this just mean that our protagonist needs to take better care to enforce his boundaries? Scroll down to decide for yourself.
