Neighbor spends $136 on groceries for a mother from Nextdoor, gets complaints about missing items, then spots another near-identical post likely from the same person asking for help again: ‘Helped someone and got hit with entitlement’

  • Helped someone from Nextdoor and got hit with entitlement

Frustrated man on a couch reading a stressful text message beside a bold quote about being criticized for incomplete errands: "She starts texting me saying I didn't get everything she asked for❞
  • Friday I saw a post on Nextdoor from a woman asking for help with food for her and her son.
  • I reached out because I wanted to help. She offered to give me $60 on Wednesday as a thank you I didn't ask for anything, but I said okay.
  • Yesterday morning sent her a door dash delivery, Spent $136. Last night she starts texting me saying I didn't get everything she asked for complaining about missing mandarin oranges and bacon.
  • I have the screenshots showing those items were out of stock and substituted. (don't see any posts with pictures so I'll leave it out of this)... BUT it got weirder.
  • A few hours later I saw another post on Nextdoor from someone with a similar last name, but this time it was a guy.
  • The way he wrote sounded just like her, only flipped he said he was a single dad, the mom died, and he needed help with food and gas.
  • Stressed man sitting on a couch reading a troubling message on his phone
  • Same town, same kind of story. I don't know if it's a coincidence or what, but it felt off.
  • I don't even know if she's going to pay me today like she said, and honestly that's fine I didn't expect anything.
  • But the entitlement and weird energy after I helped? Wild. Sometimes you help out of kindness and end up feeling played.
  • Kieth TheBeast Everyone needs to learn their lesson atleast once with this scam. Hopefully you won't be fooled so easily next time.
  • OP Excellent-Manner-384 I'll always help someone this isn't my first time helping someone, it's the first time someone offering me money back, it doesn't matter to me if she sends the money or not it's just weird everything that unfolded 4 hours after buying her the food...
  • OP Excellent-Manner-384 I didn't expect the money she offered.... I only accepted because I'm saving for a car. I'm a mom of four, juggling school and work so I know what it's like to struggle. I helped her because I genuinely felt for her. But it turned into a mess. I promise I wasn't looking for anything in return. I just wanted to help, and it got weird fast.
  • DazzlingPotion I'm sorry but this sounds like a scam to get free door dash. Save your money.
  • sumdumguy12001 This isn't entitlement. This is being scammed.
  • WarmKisslet The moment she started nitpicking substitutions for food she didn't pay for, that was already a red flag.
  • ConstructionOk4228 There's a lot of scammers in Nextdoor.
  • Any_Meeting_4082 I don't help strangers online or in person. Period. I honestly don't care if it makes me sound cold and unfeeling. I'm not getting scammed and ignoring it all prevents that. I don't care what your sob story is. Everyone has the capabilities to lie. Only donations I make are to animal shelters I know and there's a homeless shelter I've taken things to.
  • CoylyAddicted This is exactly why so many people hesitate to help strangers online. You tried to do something selfless, spent your own money, and somehow still ended up being treated like a delivery service with a customer service department. The entitlement is wild.
  • spidernole When you try to do something nice, just do it to be nice. Expect the worse and you'll never be disappointed.
  • Francie 1966 Nextdoor is scam city. The Nextdoor group in my neighborhood is nothing but scammers & backyard breeders.
