"This happened last year at a home improvement store.
I had just finished helping my dad fix something at his place, and I was still wearing a plain blue polo and khakis. Not a uniform, just unfortunately close enough to what the employees wear.
I’m standing in the aisle comparing two types of light bulbs when this woman walks up and just parks her cart right next to me.
No “excuse me,” no “hi.”
Just “You need to open another register. The line is ridiculous.”
“Oh, I don’t work here.” I told her while smiling.
She sighs loudly like I’ve personally disappointed her. “Don’t give me that. I saw you helping someone earlier.”
“Yeah…my dad.”
She crosses her arms. “Unbelievable. I’m going to report you.”
At this point I just shrug and go back to my light bulbs. I’ve read enough of these stories to know where this is going."

"About five minutes later, I head to the front to actually pay and there she is, standing at customer service with a manager.
And then I hear it.
That’s him. That’s the employee who refused to help me. She said to the manager.
The manager looks at me. I look at the manager.
And that’s when it clicks.
The manager…is my cousin.
He recognizes me immediately and just goes, “Dude, what are you doing here?”
I start laughing. The woman looks between us like her brain is buffering.
He turns back to her and says, completely straight-faced, “Ma’am, he doesn’t work here.”
She doubles down: “Well he should! He’s dressed like it and he’s been walking around like he owns the place.
My cousin goes, “He kind of does… he’s family. But not that kind of family.”
She huffs, grabs her cart, and leaves without buying anything.
My cousin leans over and goes, “For the record, you’d be fired if you did work here.”
So yeah. Apparently I got reported to management, by someone who doesn’t work here, about someone who doesn’t work here."

A family bonding moment is a family bonding moment. We consider this a win for the cousins. Now they have a story to share with the rest of their family at Thanksgiving dinner or other large family outings.
Truly, it's crazy how entitled some people can be out in the wild. Like, why did this lady double down? What did she think she would get out of this situation? That she would get the man hired on the spot just so she can get him fired right afterwards? Truly mind-boggling… but hey, we love any change to make us laugh!

"I’ve commented here before about being fired from the local market I go to but don’t work at for not helping a customer find cheese.
My favorite experience was at Walmart tho. I was wearing a ratty winter coat and had paint all over me because I was treating myself to some Rocky Road ice cream after painting my kitchen. There was one container left so I grabbed it. A woman demanded I give it to her because I could go in the back and restock the shelf. I couldn’t believe she thought I actually worked there.
She went off to find a manager. I went to the self check with my ice cream. She dragged the poor manager with her and shouted “She’s the one who took my ice cream! Fire her!” The whole time the manager is saying “She’s a customer, she doesn’t work here.”
Rocky Road never tasted so sweet."

"Sigh, I used to have a job at an outsource pharmacy that required me to wear a dark blue polo with khaki pants. Every time I stopped at Walmart after work it never failed. Random stranger walks up can you tell me where X is... sorry I dont work here point at pharmacy logo on shirt. Usually it clicked and they went on there way. The ones who doubled down with you're wearing the uniform blah blah blah. I would go sorry you got me yeah the detergent you want is on aisle X over by the automotive department or whatever section was on the opposite side of the store and away from me.
The best one was a situation just like OP's they see me point me out to the manager that's trying his best to calm her down and says that's him. He sent me on the wild goose chase. I just nod and say yes I did i told her I didn't work here and she wouldnt listen so *uck it, go away.
He sighs and says mam he's not an employee here. So how can I help you. She's still so rattled she says just fire him.
He looks at me shrugs and goes your fired go home.
Ok I'll see you in s few days ‘boss.'"

It turns out these cousins aren't the only ones who have experienced this kind of mix-up. Apparently, you don't even need to be wearing the same colors as the store's employees to be confused as someone who works there. Confusing someone as an employee isn't that big of a deal, but to then insist that they do work there after being told that was not the case is ridiculous. Even hilarious at that point! At least we get some good stories out of this. And hey, maybe an entitled person gets humbled here and there. We cheers to that!

"I once purchased an orange fleece. Lined, pockets, lovely and warm.
Loved it, until I went shopping in Sainsbury's.
After handling queries from umpteen customers and trying to convince people that I didn't work there, I went home and threw it in the bin."

"I had something similar happen at tractor supply. Worse though because I was wearing a green jacket while their employees wear red. She yelled ‘but you’re wearing green.' I didn’t bother explaining and walked away. I told my cashier that if someone complained a rvde employee, it was me and she is nuts. They had a good laugh with me."
