Money aside, she knew he was rolling in it. He had a good job and a fruitful “side hustle” (as all toxic men do), and when they were together, he was very clear about his preferences to remain the proud breadwinner of the household. Yet, he was still happy to claim a $10/month discount from her employee discount on the internet bill. At the time, she was happy to oblige, managing their finances like a skilled and dutiful accountant, but after they broke up, she assumed she'd severed all ties with him.
All but one.
By accident, she stumbled upon an opportunity for petty revenge, which, on his end, he may never financially notice, but for her is a huge win. Breaking free of a toxic ex and offloading the mental stress of a life tied to another bad person is uplifting for anyone who's had the misfortune of enduring a bad relationship. So as benign as it seems to reclaim an employee discount that is rightfully yours, it feels like taking back the reins to your own life, and there's nothing better than that powerful, intoxicatingly sweet independence.
Although she'll never get the years back that she lost with him, at least she now knows in her heart and soul that her employee discount is hers alone to reap the benefits from, and she'll never hear from her loser ex ever again. Not for the Netflix password, not to tell him where his keys are, and certainly not to save him a measly $10 a month on his internet bill.

"Discovered (by accident) that my ex-fiance is still using my employee discount.
Called my ISP today for generic WiFi troubleshooting triage, and inadvertently discovered that *my* employee discount is apparently still being used by my ex-fiance at our former residence, which I wasn't aware he was still residing at. The representative asked me if I'd like to terminate the discount at the former residence, and if I'd like to have it applied to my current address."

“Why yes, yes I would, kind sir, thank you very much.”

"This is a man who believed banging his fists against walls was acceptable behavior. Dude isn't exactly suffering financially, either: he earns over $160,000+ per year in salary, an additional $3,000 per month from a side hustle that only eats up a few hours per month, another $1,500+ per month in *profit* from an investment property, and also recently pocketed over $100,000 from the sale of another property."

“Buddy can afford an extra $10/month for internet service. While I earn a comfortable salary, I also have a condition that has me [doing] regular treatments, whereas he's totally healthy and able-bodied. I also work far longer hours than he does, not to mention I'm in a far more stressful profession than he is.”

“One small additional step towards administrative closure and course correction, one small recalibration in the ecosystem of righting wrongs.”

"Cutting people off of things they shouldn't have access to anymore is one of my favourite things! My former tenant learned this after she moved out & refused to log out of my Netflix. She even had the balls to text me and ask for the new password!"

"What! That's crazy! I'm so sorry.
I always strive to be a model tenant. Several years ago, I experienced a truly urgent plumbing situation after hours: toilet wouldn't flush after 10pm on a weeknight. I tried every DIY method to fix it, with no success. My landlord lived about an hour away with her elderly mother. I felt soooooo bad. Thankfully, I'm fine financially, so I was already mentally prepared to pay for a plumber. Before the topic of payment even came up, she responded back and told me to deduct from the next rental payment.
Loved that landlady, and her elderly mother. They were such great humans! They got to practice their French with me, and I occasionally accompanied her mother to medical appointments when she couldn't due to work. Truly great humans."

“Yeah this was justified the second you said it was your discount and you were seperated....everything else is just layer after layer of icing on top of the cake saying you definitely should cancel it”
-
“Might want to have that account flagged so when he calls to say he is entitled to the discount, they hit him with fraud charges and make him repay what he wasn’t entitled to for the time you left until finding out”
