The employee in this story knew she wasn't doing well at her job. Her performance review made that clear.
“This year, I received Needs Improvement (NI) rating.”

The employee opens the mail telling her that she needs to complete three certifications as part of her Personalized Improvement Plan, which she didn't know she was enrolled in.

Her manager asked her to complete three certifications, which is odd for a PIP. Wouldn't they want her to focus her attention on the actual work she's supposed to be doing instead of gaining new skills? Whatever their strategy is, they've completely left her in the dark.
“I don't know if I will fail the certification, what will happen if I fail, and what will be the process for that.”

Other professionals suggested that she might be the victim of something called a "silent layoff.:
"This sounds like a "silent layoff" or a move by HR to clear house before a budget cycle. If they aren't even looking at your output, the decision was likely made before they even took the role. Start updating your resume immediately."

Do you think she's getting the boot because of her performance, or because of some other unknown reason?
