Original_Farm1529 OP She's a stray who lives around my house. I've been feeding her for a while. This morning she was different. Kept coming to my door, pacing, looking at me like she was trying to tell me something. I gave her food but she didn't leave. Just kept looking at me.

Then I noticed her belly and it clicked. I made her a small quiet corner with an old cloth. She walked in, settled down, and gave birth right there. She just had her babies a little while ago. Mama and kittens are doing fine.

ThatDamnRanga Make sure to keep her inside (she's definitely gonna try land you with the kittens and scoot once they're old enough). Get her spayed. Otherwise she'll be back in a few months for the same thing!

Original_Farm1529 OP Thank you for this. She's a street cat so I can't keep her inside long-term, but getting her spayed is exactly what I'm planning once the kittens are old enough. That's actually part of why I started this whole thing, the cycle never ends without intervention.

Dzyu Maybe you know, but if she brings you her kittens it's because she needs a break. Cats do shared parenting.

Original Farm1529 OP I didn't know that. That actually explains so much about how she's been acting. Thank you for telling me this.

enfanta Try searching for TNR (trap, neuter, release) in your area. If you have one locally, they'll be a big help. And you might be surprised at how quickly momma can get pregnant again-- don't wait on her spaying. And good on ya for helping a kitty out! She certainly knew whom she could trust.

Original_Farm1529 OP There's no TNR program in this town - unfortunately that's exactly the gap I'm trying to fill one day. The vet is coming tomorrow so I'll talk to him about getting her spayed as soon as she's ready. She certainly knew whom she could trust - that line will stay with me. A

Extension-Device-533 Just be aware they can get pregnant again VERY quickly after giving birth, sometimes even within days, and then be cooking the next litter whilst feeding this one. Very strongly recommend keeping her 100% indoors until she's neutered, which can be ASAP once kittens are weaned

Original_Farm1529 OP That's really important advice, thank you. She's a street cat so keeping her fully indoors is tough, but I'm doing my best to monitor her. Getting her spayed after the kittens are weaned is already on my plan. A
