A man caked in filth shows up for work at his physically demanding job, grossing out all of his coworkers with his disgusting odor.

My co-worker smells absolutely foul. My supervisor will not resolve the issue with him.

Hi, I live in the USA. A new co-worker started in February of 2026, and day one, smelled absolutely horrendous. To describe the smell just so you understand, it isnt a
"body odor" smell, like onions or a garlic type smell. He smells like moldy, wet clothes. He comes to work monday morning at 6am and his fingernails would be pitch
black after having an entire weekend off. The smell is absolutely horrendous, every time he goes to another department, they complain about his foul
odor and poor hygiene. We recently discovered the company allegedly does not have a written hygiene policy. My supervisor wont confront him directly, instead he
addresses hygiene indirectly by having impromptu meetings about cleanliness. But lets say his name is james, the smelly guy. He has been confronted no less than
three times by my bosses boss about his odor and the issue still has not resolved. HR is not aware or involved (yet) me and my other co worker are considering simply going
over our bosses heads and dealing with HR. How would we go about getting him let go. Becsuse also, hes a sh worker, absolutely awful. No work ethic whatsoever
and not to be r de, hes extremely weak and our job is entirely physical.
A laborer works hard at his job, which is incredibly physical, and cannot be done well if you are weak.
No_Double4390 Just go to HR and say you've noticed that coworker has a hygiene problem and it's been causing a disturbance
Spirit_Caller OP What do you think HR would do about it?
abominable_prolapse It's their job to address it with said coworker. I don't know why you are being so speculative and scared to address the issue. Grow a spine.
A human resources employee who is willing to speak with employees about issues that they have with other employees, including but not limited to hygiene issues.
Spirit_Caller_ OP Ive never dealt with hr. Just wondering how they operate. No need to be hostile.
Seva Mandalas It's literally their job to address those uncomfortable issues. I speak from experience, we had similar issues where I work. It's just too bad but it's about the only thing you can count on HR for. Don't worry about what it says about your boss. Just go to hr, be visibly awkward and tell them you can't take it anymore and you're not alone. They'll deal with it immediately.
Bearjupiter Smells like your coworker may be homeless
Spirit_Caller OP Its actually funny because he has a fiancé, two kids AND he lives for free in a house at his father's land (his dad kinda has a farm).. so no... not homeless.
adarthewise Does he smell like manure potentially? He might be working a lot on the farm on days off and simply not bathing unfortunately.
Spirit_Caller OP No ive been to plenty of farms. James's cousin works here and he says james and his fiancé are just nasty mfrs
Chemical_World_4228 Does his clothes smell sour? Like they weren't taken out of the washing machine and dried? That can cause a smell
Spirit_Caller OP Have you ever opened up a garbage bin thats full and after a heavy rain?.... yeah..
okaaayyyyuh How on earth do people not realize/care that they smell so bad?
