People tell me this has to do with pushing thirty, but I swear to God I've always been like this

I remember when I was twenty-one and felt obligated to go out every Saturday, or else I would stop seeing my friends entirely. I hated the loud music; I hated the outfits we had to wear so they would let us in; I hated wearing mascara because then I'd have to take it off, and it wouldn't leave my face for days on end, no matter how many times I scrubbed.

Back then, I didn't know I could've just said no. That is the blessing of turning thirty: developing the ability to say no. It's not about the energy to go out; if something excites me enough, I have plenty. I could run a marathon tomorrow if I wanted to, but I don't do things only to belong anymore.

I'm not exactly an introvert, because I have plenty of social skills, but I definitely choose when to use them. I need plenty of rest and indoor activities; it's just me, and I've grown to accept it. I've also grown to say no to plans I don't want to attend. Growing is amazing; you can't tell me otherwise.
