Bartender Shares Snarky Message From Customer, Ignites Debate Over the Price of Doubles

A recent tweet from a bartender has influenced quite a bit of debate on Twitter regarding the pricing of “doubles.” In the bartending world, it's generally accepted that when ordering a “double” at a bar, you're ordering a double measure of the standard pour. While standard pours can deviate based on country, state, or establishment, the math there is simple. It's double the volume that you'd receive with a single. However, the cost of ordering a double seems to be a little less certain. In this controversial tweet from @yourmotherlike3,  she shares a receipt from an obnoxious customer who seemed to think their server needed a bit of education.

The “free lesson” is one thing, but the smug, passive-aggressive smiley is a whole other. As is usually the case when a service worker shares an offensive note (and in this case, an offensive tip to boot), people were pretty eager to weigh in.

Some people lamented the system altogether.

While others simply marveled at the fact that the customer really, truly thought that ordering a double means you get a steep discount.

There were, however, some people who came in to defend the customer's sentiment.

And to their credit, I do recall a few bars of my sordid past charging less than double for a double.

Despite the devils advocates, most people just wanted to make jokes and complain about the snarky note. We can't blame them. Do you think there should be a discount for a double? Or do you think that's simply an unreasonable and entitled expectation?
