'She was starving and terrified'
A couple was heading out on Halloween when they heard a small black kitten crying near the woods by their home. She was starving and terrified, and not just because it was All Hallows' Eve! They found that she would take Churu treats from them, but every time they reached for her, she ran back into the trees.
So, the boyfriend bought a humane trap and caught her. For a couple of weeks, he left food out in case her mother or siblings were nearby. Unfurtunately, no one came. She was a bit hostile at first, and it took a few weeks to earn her trust. Now she sleeps in his bed, and after a vet visit she and the household's other cat became instant best friends.
A couple of years later, she's “spoiled as heck.”

A black cat dropped her kitten at his feet an hour before midnight

On New Year's Eve in Australia, a man followed a young black cat to a burnt-out house across the street. She came out carrying a kitten about 4 weeks old, set him down in front of the man, and ran off.
“He? I think, just walked straight into my boyfriend's hands,” his girlfriend wrote. The couple already had 3 cats, but they started bottle-feeding the newcomer right away.
“$110 later in kitten formula, bottles, and pureed chicken pouches, I think we might accidentally have a fourth cat.”
Some cats choose their people. This one had his mom choose for him.

Eddy's parents spent years in a single crowded enclosure. Eddy never will.

Our parents always try to give us the best life that they can. This leopard couple succeeded in doing it for their baby.
Eddy's parents were among 13 leopards rescued from a private collection of dozens of big cats in California, where the leopards were kept together in one enclosure. If my two childhood cats needed a whole house to tolerate each other, imagine how it must have been for 13 large leopards in one tiny enclosure.
The leopards were moved to the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, Colorado, and Eddy was born shortly after. His mother was the weakest of the group and couldn't care for him, so the sanctuary staff actually raised him by hand. He can never be released into the wild, but instead, he lives with other leopards in a large habitat.
His parents lived in captivity. He was born into a life of care.

She found a baby black cat tangled in a garbage bag in the middle of the street, and it became best friends with her husband

A cowboy dad's wife spotted this black kitten in the road and brough him home. Her husband gave him the most fabulous name we've ever read on the internet: “His name is Hefty Fabuloso."
The kitten picked his purrson right away. Hefty jumps onto the husband's shoulders, follows him around the house, and sleeps with him every night. In a later update, the family said Hefty greets him every day by perching on the newel post and leaping onto his shoulders. He can be “crabby at times," they admit, but can't all cats?
Thrown away in a trash bag, he now “never leaves my side.”

A pregnant stray showed up on their front steps as the nights got colder and left them with handfuls of happiness

'I’m so happy we were lucky enough to have the opportunity to give them a good start'
For weeks, a Canadian couple fed Lucy, a black “barely stray” out of kittenhood herself. When they realized she was pregnant and winter was coming, they had a vet check her for a microchip and brought her inside. With 3 cats of their own, they split the house with a temporary fence and set up a nursery in their basement. About two weeks later, Lucy gave birth to 5 kittens in a corner of the home office. They named them after sumo wrestlers.
At 10 weeks, the kittens all got adopted into new homes. Lucy stayed.
“It was more difficult to let them go than I thought it would be,” the couple wrote. But good deeds aren't always easy, and they saved 6 lives in this whole expurrience, and that's worth more than gold.

Her family moved out and left her behind. The neighbor didn't.

“Neighbors dumped this sweet girl when they moved”
This little house panther was left on her own when the family next door packed up and drove away. Instead of looking the other way, a neighbor opened their heart and took her in. She settled the question of where she lived pretty quickly. “Looks like I've got a new cat now,” the neighbor commented.
She was abandoned by one household, but now she loves her new life next door.

A senior black cat was wandering a middle school, declawed on all 4 paws

Pepper was about 10 years old, underweight, and had trouble breathing. She had no microchip, and a week of posts online turned up no owner. Her rescuer had her at the vet within 24 hours. The findings: a whole lot of health problems, some pawssibly linked to her declawing. Who declawed her is anyone's guess, but it's a miracle she survived so long outdoors without any claws.
“The fury I feel towards whoever did that to her is immeasurable,” her rescuer wrote. Pepper now takes a concoction of meowdications to help her recovery, and her new hooman mom says she's doing great.
“Her coat is already looking and feeling so much better.”

Facing eviction, a cat mom asked strangers to help her find a home for Boa
-
“Help me find a home for my beloved cat before I don't have one to provide him with,” she wrote.
A family about an hour away answered, but they didn't stop with just fostering Boa. They ate dinner at her hooman's work, left her a tip, and bought her a jacket. Some people are put on this Earth to make it better. This family fits that description to a T.
“I literally can't thank her and her family enough for helping me."
Sometimes rescuing a cat means rescuing his person, too.

She was listed for free on Craigslist for not liking toddlers

The poster saw the ad around midnight. By 6 AM, they were meeting the owner and their cat at a gas station in the middle of nowhere.
“I knew right then and there that she had to be mine.”
Five years later, on her Gotcha Day, the cat from that listing has turned out to be someone else entirely. “Now that I've had her for a while, I've learned that she's an absolute sweetheart,” her purrson wrote.
Not every cat is a kid person, but every cat deserves to find their person.

Luna was born in a shelter and waited 7 years for someone to take her home
via Taxes_and_Fees -
7 years of waiting. A lifetime making up for it.
She grew up in a shelter, spending most of her days in a cage and coming out only now and then to play.
“Shelter told us Luna was born there and wasn't adopted for 7 years,” her new dad wrote. Now, she rides on his shoulders and goes everywhere with him.
“Now, she and I spend every minute together.”

None of these cats had it easy. They were dumped, abandoned, born in cages, or left in the woods. What changed their story was one purrson who stopped, reached out, and decided to keep going with them by their side. This Halloween, the best treat any of them got was the same one: someone who chose them!
