From funny emo batman skits, to thorough explanations on why having emo Batman was important—TikTok is the go-to place for everything Emo Batman.
Batman has been around since 1939. That's an old AF superhero comic book character. He's always been a little darker than most popular super heroes, but never to the point that Robert Pattison has gotten him to. Now, in 2022, this version of Batman is being called “Emo Batman” and in the public people give it mixed responses. However, in the TikTok world, people absolutely love it.
Batman has gone from wearing blues and grays, to grays and blacks, and now mostly just blacks. His yellow bat symbol has even been lost in the process. Maybe that would upset some boomers who remember the old batman looking a little more like the CEO of a huge company, rather than the teenage son of one, but it's doing the opposite effect to the Gen-Zers. Emo Batman is really hitting the spot with TikTok users and they are constantly posting viral videos about him, whether it's serious info, or funny skits about him. They always lean towards loving him. But let's not forget where emo first came from, and that was the millennials. So even though the Gen-Z of TikTok are proving to be the biggest stans for Emo Batman, he's a hit with even more communities.
It's been king of a running joke that every Batman has always had the black makeup, but when he takes the mask off it mysteriously disappears. So Matt Reeves, the director, thought it would be funny to keep the makeup and make it all streaky and smudge when he takes off the mask. It also apparently helped Pattinson get into character.
Can you imagine Bruce Wayne having to quickly apply that makeup as the bat signal flies in the sky? Hilarious.
This might not have necessarily been a “batman” choice, but the iconic Robert Pattison straight hair really adds to the emo-ness of this dark and brooding batman.
TikTok might be saying the Gen Z love emo batman, but let's not forget who brought the emo look into existence and that, my dear youngsters, were the millennials.
All you need to know is that, for Batman, it wasn't a phase.
Ruins the family caroling with his emo remixes.
